USAF 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group
VPP/USR Program Manager

How did you get involved in safety?

I became involved in safety after my boss asked if I would like to join a VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) committee as a site representative in 2008. I accepted the role and have been involved with the VPP program ever since.

I am proud of the many accomplishments our Air Force Safety / VPP team has achieved. These include everything from conducting internal VPP challenge program assessments to completing major projects like hangar roof replacements and providing essential equipment like PPE upgrades and lifesaving AEDs that were not available before program implementation.

What has been your favorite aspect of the VPPPA/how has your company benefitted from VPPPA membership?

My favorite aspect has been networking with other safety professionals and sharing ideas. Our company has benefited by implementing many of these ideas within our aircraft maintenance operations.

What is one of the biggest challenges you and/or your company currently face when it comes to safety at the workplace?

With a team of about 2,000 aircraft mechanics, one of the biggest challenges we face is managing and reducing hand and head injuries.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career in safety?

The advice I would give is to make sure you enjoy working with people.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

A fun fact is that I am a woodworker. I love to work in my workshop and also enjoy riding my recumbent trike.
